Wedding gown: attempt #1

I'm getting married! In like four months! So it's high time to think of everything, starting with the gown. As my Mom, our friend and I can sew, my gown will most probably be sewn for me - it will take as much time as finding the right one in a shop and be way less stressful and expensive.

So, I'll start with the bottom. It has to be like that:

This is a dress by Sarah and I just love the way the fabric is drapped.

The top could be something like that:

But I'd rather have sleeves with an empire waist, which is very flattering for me:

Actually, I have been for a week now, so if you follow my other blog/twitter/facebook/whatever, you probably already know. Anyway, I've been so busy since then, and that's why I'm writing about it here that late.

I'm a sucker for colorful tights

I've always been a sucker for colorful tights. Unfortunately, I thought they were for preschool children and didn't really own any until they became so hot a season of two ago. Then yesterday, I found two beautiful pairs, a blue one and a fushia one, that soon ended up in my shopping bag. I was just concerned that they were over, until this morning. I was browsing fashion blogs and came across this:
You probably don't need any more explanations, but I'll just say this pic comes from the GOOP newsletter and it kinda suggests that fushia tights are in - I like that and I'm gonna stick to that.

I bought a pink laptop a few days ago! But I'm not throwing the old one (black) away, and if you want a laptop to look great, you don't have to buy it pink - just buy a skin!

Pretty in leggins

Three pictures of great looks with leggins this morning.

The first one is a picture of Emma Watson in an outfit focused on leggins - that's my favourite way of wearing them, though it's hard for that look to be flattering.

This is a street style picture form The Sartorialist. Here, the leggins just add a bit of length to the outfit and you barely notice them - very well put-together.

Another leggins-based outfit. I think you have to be a model to look good in that shape and black to look good in those colors - but that girl does look great.

Fall color palette

Fashion blogs are into Spring 2009 already. Well, I'm way behind. For two reasons. First, I wanted to make most of my summer holidays and I just came back from Spain a few days ago, so up to this point I was Summer 2008. And second, I'm interested in what to wear now and not about foreseeing. So, fall has begun, Fashion Tribes had a post about the Spring 2009 Color Palette, so I decided to check out the autumn one, and here it is:

I love it. Vibrant colors but not too vibrant. Lots of colors to choose from - the world won't stick to the only right one.

Now, time to check the closet, remind myself what I've got there and start creating awesome autumn looks.

Project Runway ep. 3

So, another episode of Project Runway just aired. Let's start with all the looks in one huge picture:
My favorite one:
Yeah, it's the palette. I'd prefer a cleaner cut, but it's a great dress anyway.

Not much weaker:
This is a great dress as well. I don't get why it was the losing outfit (the designer is Emily).

This is a really nice dress that remained unnoticed:

This gown deserves a bit more appraisal as well:

And now for the winning outfit:

It's a nice dress, worn by the right girl. However, the two dresses above impressed me more.

Now for the weaker ones:
The white pieces of fabric have been compared to toilet paper by one of the judges, and I unfortunately understand why. What I don't understand is what makes this dress weaker than Emily's one.

This is a really elegant outfit, but a bit boring. I'd expect much more from a Project Runway contestant. Kurto played it really safe while Emily took a risk.

Stella's outfit... well... this is nothing special either. Stella does rock-and-roll stuff, but I can see a "step out of your box" lesson coming up for her. She always complains when she can't use her dearest leather and everyone will be bored with her stuff really soon.

Now the second last outfit:

Jennifer almost got kicked away and again, I understand why. The dress is unflattering, unfinished, and worse of all, matronly. It's hard to do young and hip in navy blue. So how did Jennifer save her skin? She said she incorporated surrealism into the dress. That's soft skills, people. See, Emily defended her dress with the words lines, color, movement... all classics. Jennifer said "surrealism" so everyone felt the presence of a higher kind of art, though it wasn't really visible. So Mrs Surrealism got extra credit and a second chance.

Project Runway is back for season 5!

Yay! A new season of Project Runway has started! This show is soooooo much of an inspiration to me! What's interesting is that it's much more fun to design with some boundaries than to just get what you want to do what you want. It makes me wanna go to the attic and find some old clothes to make some cool new clothes from.

Gucci Resort 2009

Gucci Resort 2009 is not half as cool as Badgley Mischka, but there are some really nice etno prints.

Nice, but this looks a bit like a skirt worn on the neck.

Could this dress be any more unflattering?

That's better.

This is a really cool way to wear prints without getting too colorful.

To the formals, now. I like them a lot. Well, actually, my inner child does, but I guess if you have a formal occasion to attend while on holidays, these looks are very young, fresh and holiday-suited.

Badgley Mischka Resort 2009

I can't wait for my vacation in Spain and while waiting, I take great pleasure at watching resort collections. Today: Badgley Mischka. I absolutely love the bold, colorful palette. It's really colorful, but not in a childish way. Very wearable.

I'm still looking for a nice new layout for this blog, the more artistic, the better. Today, I have found three layouts I really like.

First, "Splash" by xtasy:

Almost what I want. Too bad it doesn't work.

Second, "Spring" by Blogger-Whore:

Really cool but doesn't really work vertically.

Finally, "Color pencils" by J.Aghili, which I will be using for now.

A good designer is hard to find

I don't get the high fashion thing and can't name a single designer that I'd really like. Maybe I look at it from the wrong perspective.

Today, I ran across Jayson Brunsdon's stuff. Nice dresses, but...

...these are a bit childish...

... these are a bit boring ...

... and these are really nice, but that's nothing new and nothing special.

As you'll soon notice, I love bright bold colors. It's not a really good thing, as they look good on children and African women, and not on strawberry blondes like me, but... wait a minute, so what? You're only young once, I'm young and I don't care if sometimes, I don't wear the most becoming colors for me. Maybe when I'm older. Right now, I'm proclaiming my love for colors and color blocks.

Luella Fall 08 collection

Luella's Fall 08 collection has a few elements that I really love a lot.

First: a jumper (with a contrasting shirt, me loves).

Second: ruffles.
Third: black+blue+red palette.

Finally, ribbons!
Oh, and did I mention my favorite color combination ever is black with many bold colors?

Not that I'd wear any of these outfits, but there is something to be inspired by.
